Donald Richard Edwards “Donnie” was born Saturday, September 27, 1958, to the union of Willie J. & Margaret Ree (Murff) Edwards, in Chicago, Illinois. He was the seventh of nine children, the “baby boy”.

The Edwards family left the “Windy City” and relocated to Dowagiac, Michigan in 1963. Donnie attended Conner Mayo AME with his late grandfather, Earlie Murff as a child.

Donnie obtained a GED as well as a High School Diploma & was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. Discussing the bible was a love of Donnie’s as he considered himself somewhat of a scholar, when it came to God’s word. Spending time with family in any capacity was one of Donnie’s great joys, especially if there was a card game in the midst. Donnie took pride in working out and keeping himself in great physical fitness. He acquired a great fondness of sitting out, having a cold one, and chatting with the hummingbirds.

His greatest joy of all was his great-granddaughter, Leigha Diane “Peanut.” The two were inseparable.
