Obituary of Phillip Webber

Phillip Webber, 75, of Niles, passed away after battling illness at the Memorial Hospital in South Bend on December 21st, 2021 He was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to the late Gilbert and Eugenia (Martisius) Webber on March 16, 1946. Phillip was a perfect example of what it meant to be a true patriot. He valued our country, our freedom, and our way of life. He served our country by enlisting in the United States Navy and finishing his contract with honors. One of the things Phil loved to do what tell stories, especially about his naval warship. In his younger days, he was excellent at taking photos and capturing memories throughout his life. Quite often, he would reminisce on the days where he was much younger and more active. He was a man’s man, his handshake was his word, his work ethic was strong, and his heart was made of gold. After the military Phillip was able to find work as a skilled tradesman. He was an excellent welder and worked for Niles Steel Tank for many years. He sacrificed a lot of time and energy at that job to make sure his family was well taken care of with a roof over their heads. He wasn’t afraid to take the road less traveled if it meant there was a learning experience ahead. Phil was a very detail-oriented kind of guy, so typically when he was learning something; it was to its fullest extent. He didn’t give anything a half effort, especially if it came down to something competitive. He liked to golf when the weather was appropriate, he enjoyed his time bowling and certainly wasn’t afraid to win some money playing euchre. Old school values were something that he held close to his heart. He believed that showing up early was on time, showing up on time is late, and showing up late is unacceptable. He appreciated when someone was passionate and cared about what they were doing; he tried to set a great example of what it meant to live an honest life. Phil will always be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, and a great friend to those who knew him. He is preceded in passing by both of his parents, Gilbert and Eugenia (Martisius) Webber; and one of his siblings, Burke Webber. Phillip is survived by his two loving daughters, Vanessa Goins and Crystal(Garry Rush) Webber; two siblings, Janet Somalinog, and Victor Webber; three grandchildren, Nicole Benson, Kayla Goins, and Dominic Gentry; a great-grandchild, Anyiah Goins; and many other family members and friends. A memorial service to honor Phil’s life will take place at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Services on Thursday, January 6, 2022 at 1:00 p.m . Visitation will also be at the funeral home and will begin at 11:00 a.m. Memorial donations may be sent to American Legion Post 51 in Buchanan.
