Obituary of Janice Fay Carden
Janice Fay (Stubbs) Carden, 85, of Niles, passed away at Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph on Wednesday, May 20, 2020 after a battle with COVID-19.
Janice was born March 3, 1935, in Philip, Mississippi to the late Wallace and Virginia Stubbs. Janice is a 1953 graduate of Buchanan High School and a retiree of Michigan Bell Telephone Company where she worked for 42 years; working in offices in Buchanan, Niles, Benton Harbor, and Grand Rapids. Janice was a member of the Niles First Baptist church. She also belonged to the Air Force Sergeants Auxiliary and was a member of the Pioneers Telephone Retirees. Janice’s hobbies included a love of travel, reading, and collecting dolls and Fenton Art Glass.
On October 6, 1973, at a ceremony in Niles, Janice married, Robert Carden. They were married until his passing in 1992.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Carden; and siblings, Rita Stubbs Lontz; and Wallace G. Stubbs in addition to her favorite brother-in-law, Bill Lontz.
Janice will be missed by her nieces and nephews, Marcia (Paul) Swift, Chris (Chandra) Stubbs, Scott (Gwen) Stubbs, and Marty Lontz (Marrite); and her great-nieces and nephew, Genny, Will, Madison and Samantha, step-children, James Carden (Melissa), Tim Carden, Susan Carden and Emily Carden Roberts (Greg); her step-grandchildren Amanda, Jenelle, Elizabeth and Sarah, and her seven step-great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Joanne Stubbs, plus many extended family members and friends.
A private committal will take place at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens in the coming months.
