Obituary of Matt Croom, Jr.

Matt Croom, 75, of Berrien Center, passed away from this life, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, April 9, 2019.

 

He was born in Dumas, Arkansas to the late Matt Sr. and Ossie (Holmes) Croom.

 

Matt was a retired plumber, pipefitter and welder with Local 172, with over fifty years of dedicated service. Matt was a BBQ master. He enjoyed gardening, making wine and a coin collecting enthusiast. Matt will also be remembered for his exquisite taste in vehicles.

 

Matt was a member of Our Center for Better Living Church under the leadership of Pastor Camilla Bogan for 30 years. He later joined Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; five siblings; two grandchildren, Ginny Croom, and Timmy Coleman as well as four great-grandchildren.

 

Matt leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Diane Beason-Croom of Berrien Center; children,  Larry and (Joy) Allums of Indianapolis, Indiana, Reginald (Valray) Croom of Niles, Kenneth Croom of Niles, Deborah (Haskel) Woodard of Niles, Janice Croom of Niles, Theresa Croom of South Bend, Joy (Bridgette) Beason-Morris; step children, Nischell Patterson and John Beason, Jr.; fifteen grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; his siblings, Icie Lee Spencer of Oakland, California, Betty Wilson of Kansas City, Missouri, Edith (James Earl) Vassol of Dumas, Arkansas and Ben (Rosie) Croom; his favorite nephew (son) Kendrick Seahorn of Little Rock, Arkansas,  along with a host of extended family.

 

Homegoing service will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2019, at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 601 Ferry Street in Niles at 12:00 p.m. with a time of visitation one hour prior. An interment will be held at Union Cemetery.
